About this list
What is free?
The first 100 antonym pairs, including their English meanings, pronunciation buttons and search within the free selection.
How was the list selected?
This is a teaching selection ordered around familiar course vocabulary, not a statistically ranked list of the 1,000 most frequent antonym pairs. Pairings were drawn from French and English Wiktionary entries using the Kaikki dictionary extracts. English meanings help identify the intended sense. Wiktionary lexical data is available under the CC BY-SA licence.
Are opposites exact in every context?
No. Antonymy is sense-specific: a word may have several meanings and different opposites for each. Check the sentence and part of speech before using an antonym.
Why are there one or two audio buttons?
Every pair includes the existing French voice recording for the first word. Where the course also has a matching recording for the opposite word, you can listen to that too. Both use the same voice collection already used in the French Course.
Does my existing French Course membership work here?
Yes. Sign in with the account linked to your French Course membership to unlock all 1,000 pairs.
