About the geography list

Why are place names shown with articles?

French countries, regions, departments and geographic features are commonly learned with their article because it helps you choose the right preposition and agreement. Every play button reads the complete French entry beside it.

Why are some sections broader than a literal list?

Continents and oceans contain only a few official names, so those sections also include widely used continental regions, seas, straits, currents and other related geographic expressions. This keeps all 14 sections almost equal in size while staying useful.

Which French territories are included?

The list covers metropolitan and overseas regions and departments, together with historic and cultural regions that remain useful in travel, news and everyday conversation.

What does the audio pronounce?

Each play button reads the entire French word or phrase beside it in the same female voice as the other French Course lists.

What is free?

Entries 1–100, including their meanings and pronunciation. The remaining 900 require an active French Course membership.
